Kylie Cosmetics "Nice" palette - is it all that Nice?

Kylie Cosmetics "Nice" palette - is it all that Nice?

Naughty or nice? Does the new Kylie Cosmetics holiday limited edition eyeshadow palette live up to its name?

As part of this year's holiday collection, Kylie released two eyeshadow palettes appropriately named Naughty and Nice. Naughty has more bold, darker tones, perfect for a smokey eye, etc while Nice is on the warm tone, neutral side and has shadows perfect for an everyday look. The Nice one caught my eye, so I placed my order on launch day right before it sold out on the site. I received my palette just days later and was stunned at the perfection in person.

According to the Kylie Cosmetics website, each Nice palette contains the following shades:

Jack Frost (satin white with gold shimmer), Lullaby (matte light apricot), Gumdrop (metallic champagne pink), Mulberry (satin plum), Holly (matte reddened orange), Slay (meta, lic bright true gold), Gingersnap (matte mustard yellow), Santa Baby (light warm taupe), Blizzard (shimmering mauve with blue green flip), Macaroon (matte dusty blush), Miracle (matte white peach), Hot Cider (matte rich chocolate brown), Wonderland (matte deepened brick red), Drummer (metallic reddened bronze)

See swatches below - each of the shades felt very soft and buttery and the formula is very similar to the Take Me on Vacation palette from her recent summer collection.

Wear Test

As I do with all of my reviews, I tried out this palette for a week before coming to a final decision.

For the first look, I actually forgot to prime my eyes (I know right!), and went straight in with the neutral matte shade Lullaby all over the lid. I then used the shade Santa baby as a transition shade and blended the crease in well. I used Hot cider for an outer crease, I didn't want a heavy look, so I dipped in very lightly and then used Slay, the golden stunning color for the lid shade. I applied Slay with my finger, since its a metallic; and found myself dipping in a couple of times to get the color I wanted. I did not see much fallout, except for a little of the gold shade, which is normal since metallics usually have fallout. Overall, I really enjoyed the look and it lasted all day, even though I did not use primer.

For the second day, Blizzard, the shade that nearly everyone is drawn to in the palette was calling my name. It's a stunning duo chrome that changes color in the light. It's super comparable to Twilight in the Huda Beauty Desert Dusk palette. The shadows even feel extremely similar. I applied this with my finger to my lid and even used some fix plus to get the glitter look I was going for. I had applied my Mac soft ochre to the lid and used the shades Santa Baby, Macaroon, Holly, Ginger Snap and Mulberry in the crease prior to applying the lid color. I found this look stayed all day and had not creased. I also recieved many compliments on the overall look.

For the next look, I knew I wanted to incorporate the white shimmery shade, Jack Frost. I was going for a halo-esque look, so I applied the burgundy shade Mulberry in my crease as well as Wonderland. I built that up and blended the shadows out. I decided to use my NYX glitter glue (the absolute best one in my opinion) before applying the metallic shade on my lid to see if there was any difference as to how it applies. I then applied the shadow with a Sigma E55 brush, one of my favs and this was the best decision. I found with the glitter glue there was no fallout whatsoever and the color applied so effortlessly and did not need any fix plus to intensify it. I was obsessed with how this look came out. I used Sugar Plum liquid lipstick by Anastasia Beverly Hills to pull the metallic holiday-ish look together. The look stayed put all day and looked as pigmented at night as if it were just applied.

On the last "test" day, I knew I wanted to do a purplish look with a glitter touch, so I opted to use the Mulberry shade as the overall lid color. The crease shades used were Santa Baby, Macaroon, and Hot Cider. I packed on the Mulberry shade with my Sigma flat brush and built up the color until I was satisfied with the pigment I wanted. I decided to use a glitter liner to add a festive touch. I used Slay as the inner corner color and it turned it out amazing. I really like how this look turned out and I didn't have any issues with fallout or creasing.

As my "test" comes to an end, I can see myself picking up this palette to use for everyday looks or even smokey ones. I do like the formula and I find the metallics work amazing with glitter glue. The mattes are buttery, but some need to be built up to get the pigmentation you're looking for. Overall is this palette worth $44? That's up to you and whether or not you're a Kylie collector. I'm sure you already own most of the neutrals found in the palette, however the metallics are unique, especially Jack Frost which has a gold sheen to it and some of the duo chromes. I'm looking forward to continue to play around with the colors and create some unique looks. Although the palette is out of stock, I'm sure it will be stocked soon, as she usually restocks the palettes. I'll also keep you informed if she does - be sure to check my IG story.
