Review: Too Faced Chocolate Gold

Review: Too Faced Chocolate Gold

Too Faced, aka the brand that is known for making their customers want to eat their products due to their amazing smell, recently released a new member to their Chocolate Bar fam, the Chocolate Gold palette ($49).

Now, I don't own any of the chocolate bar palettes, particularly because the neutral colors inside the palettes already sit on my vanity with other brands, etc, that I own. However, once I saw the teaser for this gorgeous colorful metallic palette on the Too Faced instagram page, I knew it was something I needed to add to my palette collection.

I purchased mine at Ulta a few weeks ago. I had actually called the store and the sales associate told me that the palettes were supposed to be arriving in the store later that day and so she held one aside for me. I visited the store later on and used my Ulta points and scored the palette for free. (Ulta has the best reward system)

The packaging is absolutely stunning with the gold replica chocolate drips on the outside and  of course the palette smells like chocolate. According to the Too Faced website, the palette is made of 100% natural cocoa powder and real gold ( yes, real gold). In addition, the metallic shades are infused with real gold for extra luxe sparkle.

The palette features 12 metallic and four matte shades. I personally am a fan of metallic and shimmery palettes, I don't usually go for an all matte eye look.

On the skin, the shadows feel extremely luxe, creamy and smooth. With one swipe, you'll get all the pigmentation you need.

The Test

Over a one week period, I created countless looks with this product, from cut crease eye looks to halo ones to more natural ones. Below are some of my more dramatic looks, which I really loved.

To achieve the above look, I used the matte shades in So Boujee and Cocoa Truffle for the crease and then smoked out the outer v with the Decadent shade. I then applied concealer to the first half of my lid and then applied the Chocolate Gold shade with a flat brush. The color applied flawless and there was no fallout. I did not even have to wet the brush at all. There was enough pigmentation using the shadow. I loved the way this look came out. I finished off the look with Kylie Cosmetics Angel matte liquid lipstick.

For the above eye look, I wanted to experiment with Livin' Lavish, the purple shade in the palette, and so I created a halo eye. I used the same matte shades except for Decadent and then applied the purple shade to the outer and inner crease of my eye. I left the middle alone. I then applied concealer to that middle part and dipped into Drippin' Diamonds, the stunning silver shade. Girl, I was shocked at how much pigmentation there was. I used House of Lashes Iconic Lite lashes to finish off the look. For the lips, I used Colour Lit Stunner. This look lasted all day, there was no need for any touch ups at all and I did not experience any fallout.

For the last look before my final review, I wanted to do a monochromatic look and so I used New Money, the gorg metallic magenta shade.I did the same steps with the matte shades for the crease and then used the pink shade for the outer half of my eye. For the first half of my eye I used the rose gold metallic like color named Classy & Sassy. I then used Rich Girl for my inner corner to make my eyes pop. I topped off the look with Anastasia Beverly Hills Madison liquid lip. (This is my current lip obsession, it's just stunning).

Final Thoughts

I was surprised at how many looks I could create with this palette. I would definitely recommend this palette if you're a metallic and shimmer fan like me. The metallics were an absolute dream to work with and applied effortlessly.  The best way to apply the metallics is with a flat brush and using a pat motion. You can also use your fingers as well, however I really enjoyed how the looks came out with a brush. As I mentioned earlier, I did not experience any fallout with the metallics and I think using a concealer and a flat brush did help. I will say I did have to build up the mattes a bit until I achieved the color I desired for my crease.

Overall, I am really pleased with this palette and it will definitely be my go to when I need a pop of color for my look. I'm really glad that I decided to add this to my collection.
