Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation: Is it the real life "filter" we've been looking for?

Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation: Is it the real life "filter" we've been looking for?

If you know me, I'm a foundation junkie. I'm constantly looking for the latest and greatest foundation that will make my oily/combo skin look as flawless as the snapchat filter does. (I mean let's be real, that's everyone fav). So moving on, when Huda Beauty announced that she was coming out with a faux filter, full-coverage foundation, all that was going through my head was "TAKE MY MONEY."

Huda is known for her amazing makeup line, consisting of lashes, eyeshadows, lip products and highlighters, so one could almost guess the foundation would be amazing as well.

Since my local Sephora did not carry the foundation in store, I used the shade comparison guide on hudabeauty.com, to find my perfect match. According to the chart, the one recommended to me was Creme Brulee 150G, considering it was compared to Estee Lauder 1N2 Ecru, which I own. I decided to also go along and purchase the Complexion Perfection Pre-Makeup Base primer it is meant to be used with.

The foundation is available in 30 shades and the Sephora website describes it as a full-coverage cream foundation that visibly conceals blemishes and imperfections, for a filter-like finish. It is packed with ultra-refined pigments to smooth and even skin texture, diminish the appearance of blemishes, scars, hyperpigmentation and redness to create an airbrushed finish.

The packaging is in a square shaped plastic bottle-- which I know too many people were not happy about, but I was glad it wasn't glass, considering I'm always dropping things.

See swatches below comparing the Huda foundation shade to others I own:

The "Test"

I put the highly anticipated foundation to the test, using different primers and applying it differently, so see which way I preferred most.

I'll be honest when I pumped out the foundation for the first time, I was scared at the yellow shade that was before me. I told myself there is no way this is comparable to my Estee Lauder foundation, Huda had matched it to. Nonetheless, I decided to give it a go. I remembered that my reaction to the Fenty Beauty one was similar, however the color did oxidize.

For the first day, I used the complexion perfection primer base before applying the foundation. I used my fingers and just pumped once. The base is white in color and thick and kind of tacky, which is meant to make the foundation last longer. (I noticed that a sample size of the primer also comes with the foundation which is a genius idea) Once I let this sit for about a minute, I went to work and pumped about one and a half of my Huda foundation and dabbed it on my face with my fingers. Immediately, I smelled the fragrant like scent coming from the foundation. Scents usually don't bother me, so if you don't like scents, you won't like this product. I then used my Morphe foundation brush (M439 Deluxe Buffer) to blend out the product. Let me tell you, this blends like a dream and definitely lives up to its full coverage claim, considering I have freckles and some blemishes. I was literally "shook" at how the color of the foundation literally adjusted to my skin tone. I'm telling you when I put this on my face it was legit almost yellow but after blending, it oxidized and matched my skin perfectly.

I applied the rest of my makeup as usual, however I did not use concealer, since I wanted to see if this would work well as one. See the look below:

The pic was taken in my kitchen, but believe me when I say the product will cover everything. I will say at times I literally forgot I had foundation on, as it felt lightweight and my face was not sticky at all. (You've all been there where you notice a makeup print on your phone after using it to talk-- well, that's not the case with this product) It wasn't until about 10 p.m. that I noticed my face getting oily. Throughout the day, there was some areas in my face where I noticed the foundation creasing a bit, but that was fixed with some powder.

Overall, I was impressed. However I wasn't sold just yet. I decided to experiment with different primers and even none at all to see if results would differ.

The next day, I decided to use no primer at all, and applied the foundation with my damp beauty blender. Mind you, I go plenty of days without primer and my foundation lasts all day, so I was interested in seeing how the Huda one would work. Once again I applied alittle over a pump of product and blended it out well. This time I used my Tarte Shape Tape concealer and there was just something that did not look right at all. (So much so, that I forgot to snap a quick pic) The whole day, I was just not happy with how the product looked without primer. I noticed it faded after a couple of hours in different areas. When I touched my face, it felt as if I were removing makeup and my skin was very oily and the foundation also settled into some fine lines.

The next test was to use my Guerlain Meteorites primer with the foundation. I applied the foundation with a beauty blender as well to see how it would work with primer this time. I liked the way the product looked and it lasted all day. I noticed some areas getting oily around the evening which is normal for my skin. See the look below:

For the last "testing day" I used my holy grail Soap and Glory blot primer and then used a Morphe brush to blend out the Huda product. This is my favorite primer hands down of all time, it's magical for oily skin. I was really happy with how my makeup stayed put all day. I noticed the foundation did not break up and stayed matte.

Overall, I would say this foundation does live up to its name. After seeing all of the hype on social media, I didn't want to believe it until I saw it myself. Keep in mind, everyone has different skin types, my skin is combination/oily, I'm not sure how this will work on dry skin. I would recommend getting a sample made at Sephora if it is available near you. (which did you know each visit you can get three samples in store).

My favorite ways to use this foundation is with the Huda primer (there's just something that feels so effortless when using this) and the Soap and glory primer. Let me know what your thoughts are down below.
