Anastasia Beverly Hills Luminous Foundation: Review

We're alittle more than half way into 2019, and it's safe to say it's the year of Anastasia Beverly Hills!

Since January, ABH has released four eyeshadow palettes, new brow products, highlighters, pigments, eyeliners and so much more. Their latest product, the Luminous Foundation, is one that has been long awaited by the beauty community.

The foundation, which retails for $38, claims to be medium coverage, have a dewy finish and have long- lasting power.

According to the Ulta Beauty site, the foundation is:

  • Water-resistant, long-wearing formula with medium coverage

  • Gives the complexion of a fresh, radiant look with a lightweight, second-skin feeling

  • Masks discoloration, unevenness and blotchiness while giving the skin a natural, healthy-looking radiance

  • No-flashback formula creates a soft-focus effect and does not oxidize

  • Comes in a sleek, modern component with a custom hygienic pump that dispenses just the right amount of product

  • Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin

  • Formulated without gluten, parabens, alcohol, oil, mineral oil or talc

  • Clinically tested, dermatologist tested, ophthalmologist tested and noncomedogenic

  • Cruelty-free and vegan

  • Available in 5 shade categories (Fair, Light, Medium, Tan, Deep) and 3 undertones (Cool, Warm, Neutral)

This isn't the first time ABH released a foundation. They released a cream stick formula in October 2016. Personally, I wasn’t a fan of the formula since I have oily skin and I found the product just slid all over my face.

Fast forward to April of this year, when ABH hinted that they were releasing a liquid dewy foundation for summer 2019; I can’t explain how excited I was to finally try a liquid foundation from my favorite brand.

The foundations launched early this month and I’m so blessed and thankful for having the opportunity to be apart of the ABH family. With that said, I had the opportunity to try out the foundation a few weeks before it hit shelves.

The ABH team originally sent over five shades; 240N, 250C, 270C, 300C and 305N. Unfortunately the lightest shade was too yellow and dark for me. The ABH team was kind enough to send me a lighter shade; 220N; which matches my current slight summer tan. According to their color chart, 220N is light with neutral peach undertones.

The Test

I did a week wear test, to truly see how I felt about the formula.

I applied the new ABH foundation with a damp beauty blender as I do for my other foundations. I used a Covergirl smoothing primer underneath, nothing that would make my skin matte or glowy, since I wanted the foundation to do its work.

I used about two to three pumps, since this is medium coverage, I found myself adding some product in some areas, to cover redness, etc.

In terms of formula, the foundation was not runny or too creamy, which makes it unique.

I noticed the foundation went on flawlessly and blended extremely easy. Once I completed my entire face; i.e. concealer, setting powder, bronzer, blush, I really liked the slight glow it gave my face. I also really like how it evened out my skin tone and made my face look overall healthy.

About two hours into the application, I went to check on my foundation in the mirror and was pleasantly surprised at what I saw. It's as if my foundation looked better then it had, when I first applied it.

I saw a recent video where Tati (Westbrook), had worn a foundation, ( I can't remember which one), and the same thing happened to her, where it looked way better hours after. She mentioned that it had something to do with the way her skin warmed up to it, if I’m remembering correctly; and I think the same scenario happened to me.

After a few hours this formula really settled nicely into my oily/combo skin. I did notice however that as the day went on, the formula did separate in the usual areas, like the nose, chin, etc. (i.e. wherever I would touch my face).

The finish of this foundation is really beautiful; its dewy, but not borderline oily looking, it’s a perfect medium between satin and dewy.

Final Thoughts

For me, this foundation is a perfect everyday lightweight go to. However, personally I don’t think it will work for a long wearing event, etc. such as a wedding, because since I have oily skin, I’m afraid that the formula will begin to break apart with sweat, etc. I think this will be a holy grail for those with dry and normal skin.

I think this will be amazing for me during the fall and winter months, since my skin tends to get dry during that time. I think this formula is one to have in your collection, because it does look great in photos, has a nice finish and looks flawless on.
