Best of 2018: Makeup Product Must Haves

It’s the start of a new year, which means new goals, new resolutions and of course new makeup!

As we’re in the middle of January, I thought it would be fitting to share some of my favorite products I couldn’t put down in 2018; from face to lip to eyeshadow products.

All About the Face

2018 was all about the face and complexion. I found myself constantly purchasing the newest foundation products, (hence my weekly foundation posts) - in an effort to find my everyday go to and I think I may have found it. I went through an entire bottle of the Covergirl Trublend Matte Made foundation and Too Faced Born This Way foundation; which says a lot.

I found that the Covergirl one made my skin improve, if that makes sense. Each time I used it, I felt I had less texture, less breakouts, and it lasted on my skin with or without primer. It was definitely an everyday go to.

The Too Faced Born this Way foundation also was a long lasting product that gives an airbrush like finish. I really enjoyed how the product blended on my skin and most importantly looked in photos.

Some other favorites in 2018 were the Nars Radiant Longwear foundation and the Maybelline Matte and Poreless foundation. The Nars foundation has a satin like finish which is perfect for days I don’t want a matte or dewy finish. The Nars one has a great formula and a matte finish, however it’s not an everyday foundation. I love it for special events and for my instagram makeup selfies.

The Maybelline Matte and Poreless is an all time favorite. ( I mean I own five different shades, depending on my skin color for the time of year). I just love how it looks super natural and very skin like and is not heavy on the skin at all.

All about the Eyes

Along with the face, 2018, proved to be the year of eyeshadows and palettes especially.

It seems brands were releasing new palettes nearly every week, from neutrals, to bright colors, to all matte ones to all shimmers, there were literally dozens of new releases.

Three brands in particular stole my heart and vanity space in 2018- those include Anastasia Beverly Hills, Huda Beauty and Colourpop.

ABH had several new palette releases, but the one that really stole the show was the long awaited Norvina palette. The palette has a row of gorgeous shimmers and one of mattes, making it the perfect mix for easy shadow looks to more glam ones.

Huda Beauty took the beauty world by storm when she released the Obsession Palettes- a mixture of five stunning monochromatic palettes, full of 9 shimmer and matte shades.

See swatches on my instagram page and see looks I created with each palette below:

Affordable brand Colourpop also proved that makeup doesn’t have to be expensive and can still work well.

Blogger Shayla collaborated with the brand this year and created a stunning Perception palette- which I literally taketo the gym everyday. I love the color selection and the mix of neutrals and pops of color. The pigmentation is amazing and the shadows blend so effortlessly.

All About the Lips

This year, I was all about the matte lips, (although I’ll admit my lips probably hated me half of the time). I just found that wearing matte liquid lipsticks were so much easier than wearing a gloss, which would transfer easily.

The two liquid lipstick formulas I couldn’t stop using were the Kylie Cosmetics and ABH ones. I really love the Kylie formula, despite what others may think. My favorite go to shades were Bare, Koko K, Angel and Savage. I either love a nice nude or a mauve shade- there’s no in between.

As for the ABH liquid lipsticks, I found myself reaching for the shades Madison (ugh, just love this magenta color so much), Dolce (the perfect muted coral) shade, Soft Lilac and so many others.

All About the Glow

Hands down the Anastasia Beverly Hills x Amrezy collab was by far the makeup highlight of the year! Once I tried it for the first time, there was no putting it down, I was in awe at how stunning it looked. The champagne gold color is just perfect for my skintone and looks so effortless on. An added bonus is it doesn’t look too shimmery or glittery like some highlighters often do. When the product was first released, it was limited edition, however due to the large response and postive reviews, it came back at the end of the year- which proves that it truly is amazing!

All of these 2018 favorite products are currently still on my vanity, and I don’t plan on stashing them in my drawer anytime soon. (Yes, they’re just that good!) There’s no telling what this year will bring in terms of makeup trends, etc, but time will tell.
